Message From Sheriff Howell

The George County Sheriff's Office exists to serve the citizens of George County. We are proud of the accomplishments since I took office in January 0f 2012.

We have established the first George County Sheriff's Office DUI program aimed at those who think it is ok to drink and drive. In the first year of this program nearly 100 DUI arrests were made and since this programs inception more than 330 drunk drivers have been taken off the roads of George County.

We have established a regional class attended by narcotics officers from agencies from across the south. This class teaches the latest in highway drug interdiction along with drug and bulk currency smuggling. In just our third year we have grown from a local to a regional to an international class with members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police attending the 2014 DIAP Class held at MGCCC on the Lucedale Campus.

In recent months, members of the George County Sheriff’s Office have been working to create a Special Response Team (SRT), a unit within the sheriff’s office that provides specialized services in support of the George County Sheriff’s Office and its mission. The main goal of an SRT is to provide protection and safety for innocent civilians and law enforcement personnel while reducing the possibility of injuries and death in HIGH RISK incidents.  These officers realize their primary responsibility will be FIRST to their agency and assignment to this team is voluntary. It will be the first of its kind for the George County Sheriff’s Office.

We routinely respond to around 200 incidents per month. These range from murder, domestic violence, property related crimes, narcotics, and assault.

We routinely issue press releases in an effort to provide transparency and keep the citizens up to date on arrests and progress as we fight crime.

We are proud of what we do. Our goal is to serve and protect every citizen in George County. And to do this we need your support, we need your input. And we need our county leaders to know we have those from you.

Pray for our officers and their families and do not hesitate to contact the sheriff's office at any time.

Thank you.
